Reading Round-Up: Self-Promotion, The Cloud, and Lego Furniture
No time
to read any business articles this week – again? For the last few months, we’ve
been trying to share one article a day with our colleagues and clients via
Twitter (@InfusionStudio1).
Just one article – often a blog post really. Something that will take mere
minutes from your day to read. But that will keep you thinking for some time
afterwards.
Here’s
a sample of what we were reading the past few days.
Ever
wonder how to market yourself to colleagues and potential clients without
bragging? Inc.com offers “Six Ways to
Get Noticed,” with ideas for treading the line between wallflower and narcissist.
Especially appealing to me is author Shelley Prevost’s advice to promote others
first. The more you do, she says, the more other people will endorse you. Check
out these good ideas from someone whose title at the venture incubator she
co-founded is Director of Happiness.
Hesitant to use the cloud? You need to read “3
Smart IT Strategies for Small Businesses in 2013“ posted at Carbonite’s
Small Business Hub. Author Megan Wittenberger’s comments on the importance of keeping
your workforce mobile with the right technological tools is definitely
something we small-business owners need to learn more about.
And a little fun for Friday! Need a team-building exercise for your group? A
project to keep the kids busy during your next conference call? Check out “A
Stylish Table Made from Legos.” Nucleo, a design and art firm in Torino, Italy
has provided step-by-step directions for creating one of their signature furniture
designs with everyone’s favorite building blocks. Jordan Kushins reports on the
project at Fast Company’s Co.Design site. Her bio mentions that she is an avid
crafter, cyclist, and former associate editor at Dwell – but not whether her
office now contains this awesome mod table.
